Counting Crows

Six Deuce cleaned a deer in view of this camera last week.  The camera recorded every step of the process which made for an interesting sequence of photos.

In any event with a new card the camera has been recording pictures of crows.  249 of them to be exact.

Here is what a murder of crows looks like...

Trail Camera Duty

The commotion of the annual nine day gun deer hunt has now past.  Yesterday I made the rounds and fetched the SD cards from the four trail cameras that patiently keep watch over their respective locations.

Two of the cameras happen to be located within view of a couple of gut piles from where a deer was field dressed.

I'll be posting some of those pictures this week so be sure to check back...

Christmas Spirit

Getting into the Christmas spirit here at the Platz.

Hung a big wreath on the front, strung some lights and fetched a tree, some boughs and red twig dogwood for decorating.

A Bambi Story

Well sort of anyway.

Interesting item in the news today.

Researchers from the UK build the case for culling the young deer when a stalker (hunter) kills the mother deer.  Of course these are Scottish red deer.  A species different from the north American whitetail.

Here's the take on whitetail deer.

Sometimes it's a tough call.  I had a bead on a fawn last weekend and held out for a shot at mom.  In the end both mom and the twins skedaddled.

Moon Rise

The Hunter’s Moon is the full moon after the Harvest Moon. In 2013, it falls on the night of October 18-19 or 19-20.

So technically tonight's moon isn't a Hunter's Moon.

In any event - these early evening moonrises are pretty cool - you’ll see the moon ascending in the east relatively soon after sunset.
