Ditch Tiger

click on the ditch tiger to enlarge

This non-native predator showed-up on the same camera that took the picture of the brood flock of turkeys posted a few days ago.  This is a very bad predator.  A blood-thirsty murderer of native birds and other critters ill-equipped to defend against the depredations of this cat.

Stone cold serial killer the ditch tiger is.  If I have an opportunity this critter will be made to feel very unwelcome...

Friday Music

Originally released in 1967 on the album Days of Future Passed - an album based upon the orchestral concept of chronically a typical day.

My personal favorite group.

(I am not a stoner)

The Moody Blues and Tuesday Afternoon....

Sunset

An additional sunset that is not spectacular but very acceptable.

Getting an itchy release finger.

Gonna scratch that itch.

Soon.

Guess the Critter

This showed-up on the trail camera located on the north end of the property.

I see an eye (upper right), a possible second eye (center left) and a nose I think (lower center).  Fuzzy fringe of hair.  It is most definitely a face about eighteen inches from the ground.

What the heck is it?

Velvet

Not many deer lately on the cameras - turkeys galore and coyotes twice in the last couple of weeks.  Correlation perhaps?  I dunno.

Nice daylight picture of a velvet buck.

My guess is a two-and-a-half year-old.

Mighty Monarch

Meet Danaus plexippus - the Monarch butterfly.

This butterfly is capable of flying 2,000 miles from Canada to Mexico and back again to the southern United States.

When female Monarchs return in the spring they lay their eggs along the way with new generations of butterflies replacing the previous.  The metamorphoses from egg to adult takes about four weeks so there are multiple generations of butterfly in the space of a year.

It's been a banner year for this butterfly here at The Platz.  The one in the photo above was spied on an autumn aster just this past Sunday.

The Cyber

As far as the cyber we have many things we have to do better. And certainly cyber is one of them.  Okay.

I too am very concerned about the cyber.

Here is a photo of my cyber security that impressed Donald Trump.

Schlafender Hund

Always a clown the blonde dog is.

Post Debate Observation

PredictWise - which aggregates odds from betting markets and bookmakers – indicated that Secretary Clinton’s odds of winning the presidency rose from 69% before the debate to 73% after.

The Mexican peso also strengthened 2% against the dollar during the debate.

Talking Turkey

Turkeys are showing-up regularly on the trail cameras and if I had to hazard a guess I cannot recall so many brood flocks showing-up regularly.

Was speaking with a neighbor last week and she volunteered the same observation.

If we score another average to mild winter the turkey hunting next spring is going to be mighty fine.

Sunset

An acceptable sunset I believe...

Who to Visit in Algoma Wisconsin

If you are traveling to or from the Door Peninsula or just hanging out in northeast Wisconsin there are three 'must stops' in Algoma.

Add a fourth stop. Discovered this Saturday while out with friends on a bike ride.

Tour de France

Funny thing happened during this past weekend's Tour de Tom.

Guess where we're all heading...

Vive la France!

Tour de Tom - Good Eats

A handful of photos documenting the weekend's festivities which included A LOT OF FOOD.

Kicking things-of with Limburger cheese and sulze from Marchant's...

It wasn't planned for this to happen but south of the border food was featured prominently.  Best to enjoy it now before The Wall goes up.

Handmade yummy tamales...

Venison fajitas...

Mennonite made crepes for breakfast this morning...

Somehow the recycling bin in the garage is full of empty wine bottles.  Bow hunting is on tap a couple of days from now.

Tour de Tom

Second Annual Tour de Tom is now settled history.  No flat tires, no breakdowns and no arrests.  Yesterday brought near-perfect cycling conditions.  No route map, no agenda = no worries.

Ready to roll...

Porch setting in the late afternoon sun with a frosty Oktoberfest beer...

Talking Turkey - Sunday

Like I said a couple of days ago - gobblers are cheap.  All of a sudden they're showing-up on the trail cameras.

If any of you readers are bow hunting this fall/winter you had best have a turkey tag in your pocket....

Talking Turkey - Saturday

In keeping with the turkey theme begun yesterday not only are gobblers abundant but so are the brood flocks.

An avalanche of poults...

Talking Turkey - Friday

I sure hope that anyone bowhunting this fall/winter at The Platz has a turkey tag in their pocket.

I'm 0 for 4 attempting to bag a gobbler with a bow and have lost three arrows in the process.

Nevertheless if the trail cameras are to be believed gobblers are cheap around here...

Mutant

No, my garden isn't located on a toxic or nuclear waste dump.  Sometimes what you see above happens.  Although it would be fun to grow only mutant-looking root vegetables.  I whole new market to exploit.  Especially with Halloween coming-up real soon.  But I digress.  Those carrots will taste fine - just as good as these normal-looking ones...

Magical Thinking

If a presidential candidate claims to have a "secret plan" to defeat ISIS overnight (if he really has such a magical plan) wouldn't it make sense to share this with our military (who is quite capable of keeping a secret) instead of allowing terrorist attacks to continue both here and abroad?

Or maybe boasting about it for eighteen months makes better sense.  Why let the rabbit out of the hat.

It's magic after all.

Hard to believe that people fall for this bull manure.
