Friday Music

The lyrics were troubling and risqué for the time for their inclusion in a rock song that heretofore did not make reference to transgender individuals, oral sex and prostitution.

I always thought it would be kinda fun to introduce people to characters they maybe hadn't met before, or hadn't wanted to meet - said the songwriter/performer.

Released on his second solo album Transformer in 1972 this song became a worldwide hit with the single peaking at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1973.

Friday Music

Composed by Ray Davies and performed by the British rock band the Kinks this song details a romantic encounter between a young man and a possible transvestite, whom he meets in a club in Soho, London. In the song, the narrator describes his confusion towards Lola, who walked like a woman but talked like a man.

Although Ray Davies claims that the incident was inspired by a true encounter experienced by the band's manager, alternative explanations for the song have been given by drummer Mick Avory.

Released in 1970 -  this song was not without its share of controversy.  The BBC banned the original stereo version of the song for its use of Coca-Cola in the lyrics and a policy against product placement.  The song was banned in Australia because of its controversial subject matter .  It has since become one of The Kinks' most iconic and popular songs, later being ranked number 422 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.  – WIKIPEDIA

Up and Up

If you're like me you might purchase consumer paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, etc.) that are the Up And Up Brand from Target™.  They're of fine quality, affordably inexpensive and I remain unafraid and basically ambivalent to Target's policy of allowing transgender individuals to use their restrooms.  Frankly, the women in my family are more concerned about being groped by someone else.  But I digress.

A recent discovery revealed that if you invert the packaging not only is the arrow pointed down but the Brand now reads dn and dn.

FFBO

FFBO:  Feigned Face Book Outrage. Also known as:  Faux Face Book Outrage.

A disorder characterized by digital tantrums - including the stamping of feet and holding of breath while posting endless screeds and memes relevant to the rage du jour.

Symptomatic indicators include the expenditure of copious amounts of time and bandwidth including drinking too deeply from the social media punch bowl.  Intoxicated by the kool aid served in the echo chamber of similarly-stricken and tormented friends before too long the victim discovers that they're wound-up so tightly they have to serve an irrelevancy-induced time-out.

The latest feigned hysteria has to do with transgender individuals' bathroom use.  This is apparently a problem of such enormity, depravity and worrisome harm of immediate threat to the collapse of civilization that state legislation must be passed, lawsuits on both sides of the issue have been filed and calls for congressional intervention have been made.

Reflecting upon this lunacy - it is nothing short of a miracle I have survived to raise a female child to adulthood.

Sheesh.

You do know that transgender people have existed forever, right?  What bathrooms do you think they've been using?

All of this hysteria is - frankly - hysterically comical.

North Carolina's anti-LGBT legislation, HB2 - among other things - blocks transgender individuals from using public restrooms assigned to the gender with which they identify.

It would be hysterical to see what would happen if someone who looks like this walked into a ladies bathroom.  Especially a genteel, country club bathroom filled with women of another color.

Seriously - hasn't government got better things to do?  Waste of time, money, government resources and bandwidth.
