The Return of the Honey Wagon

I posted earlier today my observation that the season bird inventory here at The Platz has now peaked.  We have a full compliment of raptors, game birds, song birds and scavenging birds.

Another spring arrival appeared this afternoon.

Yup.  The honey wagon with its full load of delightfully pungent, eye-watering liquified cow manure.

Winds are out of the west today so the neighbors across the road are bearing the brunt of it.

Here's some advice.  Free advice too.  Never hang laundry out to dry when your neighbor is driving the honey wagon.

Honey Wagon

While out and about riding a bicycle around the country-side recently I could help but notice the size of the honey wagons.  They are semi-trailer-sized now.

Large-scale dairy operations produce animal wast on the scale of a large town.  And most of the liquified manure finds its way on to an agricultural filed eventually as fertilizer.

From nearby - spreading manure.

Smell that dairy air!
