Supper Club

The First Mate and his wife paid a visit this last weekend and we did a Peninsula Supper Club.

Since I forgot to make reservations for our first choice we traveled down the road a piece for a second choice that had no waiting.

The ambiance was basically supper club cool.

The adult beverages were excellent.

And the service was attentive and prompt.

But now I know why there was no waiting - the food was average - not knock-down impressive.

Next time I'm making reservations......

Al's Burgers

Al Rank opened this restaurant, located at 131 S. Washington Street, Green Bay in 1934. Over the years the Rank family continued to operate the establishment with son - George Rank - running the restaurant for more than five decades until Al's death in 2014.

Things have not always come easy as Al's closed in August 2011 because of a fire that gutted the small building,  The shop reopened in April 2012.  When the Rank family finally decided to close the business Michael Wirz purchased it in 2016.  Following the completion of updates and obtaining a liquor license Wirz reopened the joint in (pardon the pun) short order.

Another place to add to your list of great northeast Wisconsin burger emporiums.

Irish Eggs

Colloquially known as Scotch eggs - these are Irish eggs.

If you take a hard-cooked egg and wrap it with authentic banger sausage, then bread it and deep fry it - this is the result.

Serve it with Irish mustard and a Guinness and you have a pretty good happy hour.

You can check this out at Kitty O'Reillys in Sturgeon Bay.

Restaurant Review - A's

If you like fine dining you need to check-out A's Restaurant and Music Cafe.
Located a 112 North Broadway in DePere this establishment offers a relaxed and slowly- paced dining experience.  In a word - exquisite!

I had the rack of lamb and The Frau had the baked apple and Brie chicken.  Fresh salad, homemade soup and salad dressing.  They construct a fine martini too.

We shared this for dessert.
A decadent (but light) Key Lime torte.
