The Dear Leader

click on the image to enhance your worship experience

Yup.  Another massive banner bearing the image of Donald Trump was hung from another federal building today; above the main entrance to the Department of Justice Headquarters in Washington, DC

Further evidence of the vast improvement of your and my prosperity and general lot in life.  Along with making the world a safer place.

All Hail The Dear Leader!

Rare Walk In The Woods

From a day it wasn't single digit or below zero temps.

Dang, it's been colder than (fill in the blank).....

The Red Rocket

Yesterday I shared my conviction that my dog came to our household factory-equipped with an on-off switch.

When the switch is in the OFF position she's at rest.

When the switch is in the ON position she's tearing around the landscape at full-tilt whether on the hunt or at play.

As a matter of fact, on the subject of an object happens to be in motion, she has raised Newton's Law of Inertia to art form....

From March 10th there is this.

The pooch and I were out running the trail camera trapline and captured some short video footage of the pup and my fat hand at the end...

Deer Camp Selfies

From the trail cameras are some selfies of some of the camp members wandering-about  as they moved from stand to stand or back and forth from the house.

There was also a successful search and rescue mission to locate a missing two-way radio.

Putin Is A Dick

Anybody who knows me would know that 95% of my T-shirt inventory is comprised of bike ride shirts.

Not this.

I wasn’t particularly thinking about it when we stopped at the Sturgeon Bay Farmers Market this morning when all of a sudden total strangers all over came up to me to compliment and share their approval.  Same for folks at the grocery store.

There are plenty of descriptors for Old Vlad that are inappropriate around children and social media. Nevertheless, there seems to be near universal agreement that Putin Is A Dick.

Happy Labor Day

Since today is Labor Day it seems only fitting that I should publish some self-effacing imagery of a dusty, chaff-producing fall chore.  Namely completing the final brushing of the trails.  Not that I mind at all - I even took no small measure of delight in digging and hauling dirt on Saturday.  What sort of retired kid wouldn't?  It's one of the  last hurrahs of chores before bow season commences.  A good labor indeed.  And Sunday was a day of rest.

These were taken Friday and Saturday from a couple of the trail cameras - including this one....

And a two close calls with the video set-up.....

New Location

The location of this trail camera has been acceptable as it has been delivering a steady diet of deer and turkey photos.  And occasionally a selfie.  So after discussing the matter with my four-legged ladies we moved it about thirty yards (give or take) west.

It is still situated on the north bank of Silver Creek but facing the opposite direction south by southwest directly in the trodden path of a well-worn game trail.

Stay tuned...

Winter Camouflage

Trail camera selfie from last weekend’s abruptly interrupted turkey hunt.  Winter camouflage smock actually works rather nicely.

This was a first.

Mothra

When I serviced the trail cameras last weekend I discovered another infestation of gypsy moth caterpillars hiding behind and underneath a couple of cameras.  It was an excellent opportunity to squish them to death with my gloved hands and them stomp them with my boot for extra measure.

This one took a selfie before it died.

The Help

You're enjoying this blog post and its accompanying photo courtesy of the ten-pack of SD cards I purchased from Amazon.  Yes, Amazon.  Competitive pricing, fast delivery and a vast selection a key stroke away - all from the warming glow of my laptop.  Amazon is pretty amazing - wouldn't you agree?  I digress.

I had a suspicion that any number of my twenty or so older SD cards were becoming faulty or harboring flaws because the trail cameras were not rendering the usual number of photos they should.  Software updates and fresh batteries didn't make a lick of difference so there was little evidence of fault in any of the Moultrie trail cameras.  The frustrating part of all of this was there wasn't a particular pattern.  No diagnostics revealed which card would predictably fail and all of the cards look alike.  Nevertheless, my pal Smokey Joe told me awhile ago that memory cards wear-out eventually and become failure-prone.  So, I purchased a new supply of cards and deployed them in the five trail cameras for a couple of weeks.  I fetched them on Sunday.

Voilà!  Pictures produced on all five cameras.  Old cards went into a Ziploc to keep them out of circulation and for later disposal.  I date-stamped the new cards with a Sharpie.

More pictures are in the queue and the cameras are performing their patient duty.  It is remarkable indeed how the hired help around here figured this out and by process of elimination solved the technological riddle.  It's hard to find good help nowadays but the staff here at The Platz is hardly ever asleep at the switch.  Stay tuned...
