I'm not sure what the attraction is. Maybe whitetail deer are just naturally curious about things in their environment. Particularly man-made devices.

Munch Munch Munch
A common fallacy is that whitetail deer are grazing animals.
Not so. They are browsing creatures.
Grazing animals clip vegetation close to the ground. Think cows and bison.
Browsing animals clip leaves, buds, stems and other woody vegetation from trees and shrubs.
Occasionally a deer might clip something from the ground and eat it. They raise havoc with agriculture and will munch on a pile of corn if you dump it out for them - but they're mostly browsers.

Herd of Deer Redux
Posted some pics this morning taken early in February. A group of deer - possibly a couple of does with last year's class of fawns.
Yesterday I relocated one of the cameras to cover a well-established deer trail.
Check out these pics taken this morning. I didn't post all of them but judging from the sequence of photos over the space of a couple of minutes there are possibly 5 to 6 deer in the bunch.
Same group or a different group?

Herd of Deer
This is a popular location for a trail camera. Situated here for about a year I chose it because there is a well-worn east/west game trail here. Deer and turkeys travel it frequently.
Predictably the camera is capturing photos of a group of four to six deer that make it their routine to pass through on a regular basis. If I had to guess it's a couple of does and the Class of 2014 fawns.
Here they are traveling single file...
And gathering in a group. The fourth is behind the deer in the foreground...

Deer, Oh Dear!
Yesterday
afternoon the girls were barking at something. Turns out it was a group of eight
whitetails traipsing through the tall grass out behind the house.
The girls and I were out today over-seeding a portion of a trail. Took a few moments to swap-out some SD cards and relocate a couple of the trail cameras.
Here are some of the local whitetails posing for the trail cameras. Includes a couple from this morning.
Absolutely no shortage of deer around here...

Frost Seeding
Finished frost-seeding this afternoon.
You deer camp guys would know this to be the center trail of the middle plantation. Much of it was a real mud hole most of last year. Maybe my custom seed mix (red clover, dwarf rape, chicory and turnip) will germinate.
Fingers-crossed as it would be nice to have a flush of green forage for the pollinators, turkey poults and other critters this spring.

Kill Zone
Interesting thing about machine-planted trees is I have a ready-made shooting lane.
While out pruning oaks I have created this nifty opportunity.
Facing west from the central trail I have 75 yards (give or take) of clear shooting opportunity. If I situate a ground blind or a tripod stand on the location from where I took this picture I would also have another 100 yards (give or take) to the south in the middle north/south trail.
The trees here are crowded and thick making for some really dense cover.
If a deer or turkey were to step into the clearing opportunity knocks.
Why haven't I thought of this before?
