Healthy Doe

Unlike the photos of the scrawny and raggedy yearling I posted recently some of the does are looking fat and sassy.  Probably the glow of pregnancy.

This could possibly be the same doe - pictures taken only a couple of days apart...

Contrails

Trail camera photo of my lovely Frau.

But what is stunning are the contrails in the sky above.

Meteorological conditions were such that the usual commercial airliner traffic left a larger trail of larger, puffier and more persistent collection of contrails than usual.

I should make a practice of looking up in the daytime sky more often...

7:09 AM a hen moves thru the camera view

7:38 AM SID walks down the trail to his blind less than a hundred yards from the location of this camera

9:19 AM another hen cruised past the camera

10:28 AM SID returns home with his gobbler

Way to get the job done!

Rough Winter?

These have got to be among the scrawniest deer I have seen in a long time.

If I had to guess - they're yearlings.

They've obviously survived the winter but they're looking a bit thin.  You can even see the ribs on the one in the first picture.

With everything greening-up things can only get better.

Nature is a tough mother.  The strong survive and the weak are killed and eaten...

Thawing Out

Been finding small snakes like this one sunning themselves on the blacktop driveway.  This little guy is only about 9 inches long and thin as a pencil.

Storeria occipitomaculata - Red-bellied Snake.

This snake emerges in late April so it's right on time.

Foreplay

First of May readers.

Hooray, hooray, the first of May.  Outdoor sex begins today!

Not much to say about this performance.

A series of pictures of the wild turkey courtship rite captured by a trail camera.  Elapsed time is almost two hours.  Talk about investing in the romance.

Wish now I had set the camera on 30 second video mode.  Enjoy the show....
