Thoughts on Digital Manners

If you spend enough time on Facebook you will eventually come around to the notion that facts and factual information is problematic for some people.

If their closely-held beliefs are undermined by factual counter information these individuals feel threatened and oftentimes respond with insults and dismissive posts.  Which is understandable – they live in an echo chamber.

There are plenty of smart people to go around and you don’t have to call them names or dismiss them out of hand simply because you disagree with them.

On the other hand, if someone is advancing some sort of perverse fraud by preying upon the vulnerabilities of individuals with legitimate grievances and misleading them - then that would be wrong.  And the wrongdoer should be called-out and held to account.

Eschew the glib and flippant memes and digital aggression.  Forget the drama.  'Tis better to be circumspect.

Talking Turkey

click on the poop to enlarge

Yes, poop.  A large dropping of bird poop.

Too be sure - it would be turkey poop.  Wild turkey too.

On the walkway alongside the garage.

Nervy bird the wild turkey is - walking alongside my garage and dropping a turd.

Turkey hunting opens Wednesday.

Military Filmography

A half dozen years ago the crackerjack staff here at The Platz posted our Top-Ten picks of movies about Hollywood Goes to War.  We thought we rather nailed it.  Nevertheless, staff recognizes that moods, politics, tolerance for warfare and Hollywood tastes change over time.

A pause for a partial revisit.

From the all-knowing interweb is the Top 12 of the Best WWII Movies (with trailers).

After a half-dozen years it's interesting to note what our experts had to say with what persists in short-term popular culture.

If you care to compare and contrast simply click on this link to The Platz's picks.   They're right on the left-hand margin of labels under the Hollywood Goes to War. They're not all WWII - but they're close.

Enjoy surfing the YouTube accounts and apologies, in-advance, for any dead links here since the original post was published.

If you are motivated you know where to find the content...

The Terrible Oz on the Economy

“We are in a bubble; it could be an ugly bubble; when they burst it’s not a good thing,” he said. “We’re going to go into a massive recession. But I always say, if I’m president it’s not going to happen.”

Just a casual observation but the last time I looked job growth is strong, labor force participation is improving, we're beginning to see a wee bit of wage inflation and judging from the uptick in housing starts and a new record in the sale of light vehicles consumers are more bullish than they have been since the Great Recession.  Interest rates are low, the dollar is strong, and the US has the best relative growth of all the advanced economies.

Who is that man pulling the levers behind the curtain anyway?

Cow Path

Was out with the girls the other day running the trail camera trapline.

You can probably guess why this cam is located where it is, eh?

Creatures of habit that they are during mud season the well-traveled deer trails look like cow paths.

Quote of the Day

“Getting off the airplane ... Seeing all the green and gold and the green and gold until I’m dead and cold paraphernalia everywhere.”

- Sarah Palin
