I found this photo on a digital file at the day job. It was taken with a 35mm SLR camera on a tripod using a timer.

Wow!Back then if you were awarded a spring turkey permit you might consider yourself one of the luckiest people on the peninsula. And if you hunted you had to knock-off by 2 PM every day. No hunting allowed when the birds might be returning to their roost. Wild turkeys had only recently been reintroduced to the peninsula and hunting followed shortly thereafter.
Nowadays, the turkey hunting experience is much different - ample permits, a selection of seasons and plenty of birds. And we have a house, ground blinds, digital technology and WiFi.
The landscape has changed too. That photo was taken on the middle trail of the northern-most plantation. You can see a handful of the tiny, little tamaracks and cedars peeking above the grass. That is Clayton's Stand way-off in the background at the left edge of the photo. If you stood on this same spot today you would be surrounded by mature trees and couldn't see that stand unless you followed the trail all the way around to find it on the other side of the plantation.
What a difference a decade and a half can make. Time flies when you're having fun. WOW!
