The Big Migration

Another sure sign of autumn is the return of random numbers of sandhill cranes at dusk.  They circle the big pond a couple of times and come in for a landing to feed and rest overnight.  


They're staging as they continue to gather in their migratory flocks preparing for their trip south to wintering grounds located in the southern coastal states and Mexico.  It is one of the reasons that fall is one of my favorite seasons. 

Strike that.  I like all of the seasons.

When out hunting it is not at all unusual to take in this view from a deer stand...
