This song was written, composed and performed by Neil Diamond and released on his 1970 album: Tap Root Manuscript.
The song muses about mortality with the first section featuring a fast-paced recitation of twenty-five historical figures. The second part of the song is slower and more retrospective reflecting-upon the commonalities of these individuals.
It spent five weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart as the B-side of I Am...I Said - which coincidentally reached number 65. I guess I had forgotten how much I liked it back in the day.
