Herald The Politics Of A New Year

It is the start of a new year gentle readers and a new Congress convenes tomorrow at noon.

I've been pondering what 2023 might bring to the domestic political realm.

Careful analysis of the polls suggests that only about 20-25% of the GOP are extremists (e.g. QAnon, conspiracists, hard core MAGA).  That figure does not include Republicans such as Cruz and Hawley who are just sleazeball opportunists.

Nitwits like Hershel Walker, carpet baggers like Mehmet Oz and loonies like Kari Lake are a bridge too far for independents and anyone who leans Republican.  Inasmuch as the TFG is going to be the 2024 candidate; my expectation is that celebrities, election deniers and flavor of the day outrage are going to be favored over more valuable and viable candidates.

Regrettably, grievance has supplanted any policy platform.  Sigh.

As we enter the run-up to the 2024 election it is noteworthy to remember that Biden was not only elected by a coalition of mainstream and progressive Democrats; Old Uncle Joe also won with a majority of independent voters along with a sizeable number of crossover Republican votes.

Don't take my word for it though.  All you have to do is dissect the recent mid-term elections and consider the fact that down-ballot Republican candidates universally prevailed over the guy at the top of the ticket in the 2020 election.

I predict that 2023 will have very few dull moments.

That's all for now.

Happy New Year! ____________________________________________________________________________

There is a population of conservatives, Republicans, center-right individuals and independent-minded voters who place a high value on facts and the truth. Marginalized because they refuse to embrace baseless conspiracy theories nor demonstrate sufficient fealty and obeisance to the former guy - exile is their cross to bear.
