If you are celebrating Carnival, Joe Cain Day is commemorated on the Sunday before Fat Tuesday.
Joe Cain (1832-1904) is regarded as the founder of Mobile's modern-day Mardi Gras celebration.
In 1866, Cain paraded through downtown Mobile dressed as an imagined
Indian chief, an act that helped rejuvenate the city's carnival
tradition after the Civil War.
Joe Cain lies at rest in the Church Street Graveyard in Mobile, AL
