Friday Music

Composed by Bob McDill and Allen Reynolds this song was first released on McDill's album Short Stories in 1972 and is credited with launching McDill into the crowded ranks of country music songwriters.

The song is a story about a freed slave, featuring the difficulties of everyday life for Black people at the time.   It is also about the singer who, in boyhood, found him to be an inspiration and source of Delta culture.

It's been covered by many artists including Jerry Garcia, Toots Hibbert, Alison Krauss, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and others.

Enjoy.....
