Green River

Green River is a bright green, lime-flavored soft drink which originated in Chicago.

Created by the Schoenhofen Edelweiss Brewing Company in 1919 it rivaled Coca-Cola as a fountain syrup throughout the Midwest.   With the end of Prohibition in 1933, Schoenhofen reinstated the brewery operation but continued to manufacture Green River.  After the brewery closed in 1950 the Green River brand lived-on produced by other manufacturers.  I remember this as a kid.  A neon-green lime soda pop.  I haven't had one since I was aged in the single digits.  Until now.

Twig's of Shawano, WI manufactures a terrifically-refreshing lime soda made with real cane sugar.

Cheers!
