How Many?
How many deer are in the picture above?
If you counted three that would be an excellent job. The two obvious deer in the foreground at the north edge of the trail and a third to left in the background.
There are actually four however. The fourth whitetail is in the background on the right. If you cannot spot it that's OK. I only noticed it while flipping through the burst photos the trail camera recorded. Only the movement of the animal gave it away.
Unlike the two animals in plain view in the open this is an excellent example of why they're so difficult to hunt. You cannot hear them and unless they're moving you cannot see them. The dull brownish-grey winter coat this time of year is superb camouflage.
