Polar Vortex

It would appear that we weathered (pun intended) the polar vortex of last week without any serious mishaps.

Even though the overnight lows plunged to minus twenty-three degrees all the mechanical systems operated patiently and without interruption, no pipes froze and nothing broke.

The beer in the garage fridge didn't even freeze.  There is science behind that phenomenon.  Namely that the unheated garage remains cold and the thermostat in the refrigerator doesn't call for the compressor to operate and as a consequence the contents of the fridge and freezer remain slightly warmer than the outside temps.  A refrigerator is a rather well-insulated appliance.  As a consequence it protects valuable assets like your refreshing adult beverages.  But I digress.

Spee-Dee Delivery Service did leave a package on the porch.  It contained seeds for this year's garden, jute twine, soil inoculant for my legumes and a bottle of Colorado Potato Beetle Beater (controls the tough CO Potato Beetle larvae, as well as selected leaf beetle larvae and adults.  For organic gardening).  The label says to store in a cool dry location and do not let freeze.

Oddly-enough I don't think it froze - at least solid anyway.  When I fetched it from the stoop I immediately opened the package and the plastic bottle was intact and the contents sloshed-around as expected.  It is with some degree of certainty that the package was alone outside for at least a couple of days.
