Friday Music

A favorite of mine since almost forever-ago, this song was released in 1969 on Neil Young’s album - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere - Young's first album with backing band Crazy Horse. Released as a single the following year, it reached No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970.  Young has never said who the Cinnamon Girl is – deferring to the listener any lyric interpretations.

The liner notes to Young’s compilation album - Decade - reveal that Down by the River, Cinnamon Girl, and Cowgirl in the Sand were all composed  in a single afternoon – while Young was sick with a 103 degree temperature. They were recorded after being together with the band Crazy Horse for only 2 weeks.

This happens to be the best cover of Cinnamon Girl I’ve ever seen.

Crank-up the volume on your workstation computer for this version by a Canadian alternative rock band - The Odds….
