Composed and originally recorded by San Franciscan doo-wop artist Bobby Freeman this song quickly rose to the number 5 position on the pop charts and number 2 on the R&B chart. It was 1958 and Freeman was only 17 years of age.
In 1965 the version covered by the Beach boys rose to number 12 and a 1972 cover by Bette Midler reached 17.
Hot damn - music was sure good back in the day.
