New Era Enterpriser

Are you a Core Conservative?  A Solid Liberal? Or somewhere in between?  Take the quiz to find out which Political Typology group is your best match compared with a nationally representative survey of more than 5,000 U.S. adults by Pew Research Center.

You may find some of these questions are difficult to answer.  For example, you may partly agree with both statements, or feel that neither quite describes your view.  That’s OK.  In those cases, pick the answer that comes closest to your view, even if it isn’t exactly right.

My best fit?

New Era Enterpriser

Along with 11% of the public.

This relatively young, economically conservative, Republican-leaning group tends to be relatively moderate on immigration and views about America’s engagement with the rest of the world. Most say U.S. involvement in the global economy is a good thing and that immigrants strengthen the nation. As is the case with other GOP-leaning groups, a majority of New Era Enterprisers reject the idea that racial discrimination is the main reason many black people are unable to get ahead. Nearly two-thirds favor societal acceptance of homosexuality. New Era Enterprisers are less critical about government than other Republican-leaning groups.

Go ahead.  Take the quiz here.

Interstellar Visitor

In breaking news - astronomers announced late Thursday that they’ve identified a chunk of stuff from another star passing through our solar system.

This is the very first time (at least since man has been chronicling the heavens) that we’ve caught an interstellar asteroid or comet visiting our neighborhood.

Scientists are temporarily calling the object A/2017 U1.  It is unclear if the object is made-up of rock, ice or both, but it’s about a half-kilometer in size and zipping through space at just over 40 kilometers per second.

Scouting

By the time you read this a couple or more bow hunters will be out in the woods stalking the elusive and tasty whitetail deer.

Early sign of the rut beginning is this fresh buck rub the girls and I found.

Wishing everyone a safe and successful hunt....

Poetry in Motion

My old dog still manifests the athletic grace of a Labrador retriever half her age.  Forgot to pack a shotgun on today's walk - it's open season for pheasant, grouse and doodle birds...

Friday Music

This American/English group coalesced (in Hereford, England) around Chrissie Hynde (Akron, Ohio, USA) in 1978.  Band members floated in and out of view over the years as a consequence of personal and creative differences, drugs and whatever it is that plagues otherwise talented musicians.  Throughout - Hynde has been solid - a singular force in keeping this group in play.  She launched a solo career in 2014 and the Pretenders were pretty much on hiatus for a few short years.  Nevertheless, the band resumed performing in 2016.  Among my most favorite tunes is this gem.  Turn-up the volume on your workstation PC and enjoy…

Work

Dank, damp and cold makes for a good day to work from home.

Quote of the Day

It is clear at this moment that a traditional conservative who believes in limited government and free markets, who is devoted to free trade, who is pro-immigration, has a narrower and narrower path to nomination in the Republican party.

It is also clear to me for the moment that we have given in or given up on the core principles in favor of a more viscerally satisfying anger and resentment.

Eggs

No, these are not colored Easter eggs.  These eggs of varied sizes and natural pastel hues are from locally pastured hens.

Yikes!

Purple Haze

It is raining so who'd a thunk to look.  Almost missed this tonight.  Here and gone in a moment...

Game Day

Terrific day for football today - scattered rains and 53 degrees at the House of Lambeau.

Our pals Tom and Karen invited us to join them and witness the Saints over the Packers 26 to 17.

We also learned of another most excellent burger joint - Kroll's West (one of two) that serves an American Heart Association approved game day lunch of deep fried cheese curds and an original butter burger.

Yum!

The Garden Chronicles

Slowly putting the garden to bed for the winter.

Picked the last of the sweet peppers and pulled the plants for the composter.

Remarkably the the largest of the pepper plants were still blooming.  Amazing how well they did this year.

Rototilled the soil to turn-under the weeds.  All that's left are the remaining Bibb lettuces and a row of carrots.  I'd like to leave the carrots until the frost sets-in as they'll be sweeter as a result.

Incidentally, here is my vast pumpkin harvest....

Will be interesting if I get a decent collection of seeds out of these gourds for roasting.

Report From the Butterfly Ranch

Last weekend we still had some monarch butterflies flitting here and about.  This weekend - nothing.  The only insects in abundance were those nasty Asian beetles.  They bite and they stink!  And flies and more flies.  But I digress.  Jill follows the monarch migration online and near as we can figure they've beaten it out of Dodge for parts and places south.

Then I found this yesterday on the south-facing side of the garage.

Gutsy butterfly the monarch is to wait this late...

Bucks

The cameras have captured everything from bunnies, skunks, coyotes and some bucks with very large racks - but too poorly composed to bother publishing.  Here's couple of one and a half (possibly two and a half) year-old boys.

Friday Music

Earth, Wind and Fire (EWF) is an American band that has spanned the musical genres of rhythm and blues, jazz, funk, disco, soul, pop, disco, Latin and African.   They are one of the most successful bands of all time.  Rolling Stone Magazine described them as "innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing" and declared that the band "changed the sound of black pop”.  Wikipedia

Sure I know it's now October and September is past.  Nevertheless, the inspiration for this post came from my pal Braumeister.  I hadn't previously figured him for a follower...
