Moon Dog

Just got back in to put-up my feet at the fire after taking the girls out before bedtime.  Yet not before I took this photo of what appeared to be a halo around the moon.

On a clear night – and under the proper conditions – from time to time you might see a ring around the moon that looks like a halo.  This phenomenon is a consequence of light bending or refracting as it passes through ice crystals in high altitude cirrus clouds.

Colloquially - a Moon Dog.

Not the best photo in the world but dang it’s cold out there…..
