This all started in January when my former business partner gave me a couple of venison ring bologna. Here's a rogue's gallery of recent meals served around here at The Platz. For the most part these are meals I grew-up with.
Ring baloney, fried taters and baked beans. The beans are homemade and came from my strategic reserve stashed in one of the chest freezers. This was a staple meal from my childhood - when the beans were Campbell canned beans...
Homemade meatloaf, mashed taters, mixed veggies and gravy. Comfort food...
Tuna noodle casserole. A special request of the missus. This batch was topped with french-fried onion rings instead of potato chips. Yummy....
California burger. Toasted kaiser roll, 1/3 pound ground check patty, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, sweet onion and mayo...
Roast turkey, homemade stuffing, mixed veggies and gravy. Need to make this more than once a year...
Door County venison anointed with Penzeys English Prime Rib Rub, EVO, reverse seared on the Weber (medium rare), yam and romaine dressed with bleu cheese and crumbles. Fit for a king.
And there is this.
Simple fare that I characterize as a Man Dinner that is prepared when your spouse is away visiting her elderly mom.
Half-pound of tenderloin of beef filet and a baked potato topped with sweet cream unsalted butter infused with savory spices and sour cream and chives.
Pro Tip: Give that spud a generous rub with bacon drippings before baking at 400F. Steak pan-seared rare in the same.
Edit to add:
And last evening the mock chicken leg made an appearance.....
(Scored a pack of fresh mock legs at Marchant's Meats in Sturgeon Bay)
