Friday Music

This song was composed by Mark Knopfler for the band Dire Straits.  It was released as a single in 1981.

According to the interweb Knopfler composed this song following a failed relationship with performer Holly Vincent.

The tune speaks of a rejected Romeo who remains very much in love with Juliet.  Knopfler has said, or implied, that he was used to advance her musical career.  The song's line:  Now you just say, oh Romeo, yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him.  Is said to refer to an interview of Vincent in which she says:  What happened was that I had a scene with Mark Knopfler and it got to the point where he couldn't handle it and we split-up.

The drama is killing me.

Nevertheless, here are two of my most favorite artists in the world performing this timeless version of Romeo and Juliet....
