Telephone Road is a thoroughfare located in Houston, TX. The road extends from South Lockwood Street to the City of Pearland with a portion designated as Texas Sate Highway 35.
Historically, Telephone Road is named for the telephone lines that ran along the road in the early 1900s. It is thought that the Long family of Pearland formed the telephone company and perhaps laid the original lines. Long Drive intersects with Telephone Road and may be named for the Long family.
Both Houston native son Rodney Crowell and San Antonio native Steve Earle composed songs named for this road.
