It's unclear whether or not the late Everett Dirksen ever said anything about real money. Nevertheless, the United States has accumulated as much debt in the last 7 years as we created in our country’s entire history up to 7 years ago.
As of the end of April 2004 the total debt of the US government was $7.13 trillion.
As of the end of April 2011 the total debt of the US government was $14.29 trillion.
