Contemporary Republican Trade Policy

It is curious how a couple of simple tweets can be so chock-full of untruthfulness.  If it wasn't so absurdly mendacious it would be funny. 

President Trump is repeating the lie that China pays for his tariffs. 

The Truth is that American importers pay the tariffs.  The importer either ‘eats’ that cost (thereby reducing profitability) or passes it along to the consumer (you and me) increasing our cost.  Simply-put it is a Republican tax increase levied upon the American public.  Yes, you read that correctly.  This is how Republicans conduct trade nowadays.  

Furthermore, Trump insists that the tariffs are a boost to the American economy.  Another lie. 

I suppose if you repeat a lie with sufficient frequency some people will accept it as fact. 

PT Barnum had a phrase for that.....
