Composed by Russell Smith and initially recorded in in 1974 by the Rhythm Aces and Smith. The song was popularized in 1975 by the restructured Amazing Rhythm Aces.   It happens to be the band's debut single rising to #11 on the U.S. country singles chart and #14 on the Billboard Hot 100.    

In 1994 country artist Sammy Kershaw covered the song for one of his albums and it included backing vocals courtesy of the composer Russel Smith.  

All credit is due the Aces for bringing country music mainstream.  I still get a charge out of the lyrics.
