Leland, Mississippi – population less than 5000 – is located
in the heart the Mississippi delta. Soybeans,
rice and cotton remain important agricultural commodities. And the USDA maintains an Agricultural Research
Station on the outskirts of town.

Leland is also home to the blues and hosts a half-dozen trail markers
commemorating its contribution to the blues as a musical genre.
Surprising to most is that Jim Henson was
born nearby and raised in Leland so by extension you could say that this is
also the birthplace of Kermit the Frog. Who knew? Makes sense if you thing about it. River delta + swamp = frogs. I travel south periodically – and this might be worthy of detour and
visit.
