Donald Trump may have a large number of shortcomings but I give him a great deal of credit for his mastery of staging a narrative.
Take the COVID-19 pandemic as a classic example of his stagecraft. He will take credit if the health and economic crisis reverses and improves. If matters worsen – he will blame the governors.
And as we begin the run up for the November election his narrative is the same as the run up in 2016. The election outcome is already preordained. If he wins it is because the election was fair. If he loses, the election was fraudulent and rigged against him. The democrats are cheating and will steal votes by some imaginary yet nefarious means and Trump supporters will have been gypped by dark forces that are already at work.
Don't forget, in
2016 Trump claimed that an election he won was rigged - what will he do with an
election he actually might lose?
Trump is setting the
feast at the table his supporters are dining-upon so that they will disbelieve
the election results if he loses. Nobody
should be surprised when he declares that the result is invalid.
Brace yourself for the bullshit.
And for the
record – as I do with just about each and every election – I will vote by mail.
