Born blind in 1936 Clarence Carter graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in music from Alabama State College in Montgomery in 1960.  Carter became a successful songwriter, record producer and master of singing the blues and soul.

Released in 1968 - Slip Away rose to number 6 on the pop and number 2 on the R&B charts.
