The Garden Chronicles

Rototilled the garden again to aerate the soil and till-under emerging weeds.  Took the opportunity to perform the first mounding of the potato plants that are emerging from their slumber.  Mounded the onions too - on principle.

Planted fourteen tomato plants - four each of Champion, Early Girl and Better Boy along with one each of Black Krim (and heirloom variety I tried last year) and a cherry tomato plant adjacent to the raised bed along the driveway - for ease of  snacking.

Planted eight Northstar sweet pepper plants along with four broccoli plants.

And a second sowing of spinach, Bibb and red leaf lettuce, beets and radishes.

The English peas are coming along fine but the first sowing of the spinach, lettuces, beets and radishes is looking grim.  Not sure what the story is - lack of germination, germination followed by a dry spell?  It's anyone's guess.  Not too worry as I've seed aplenty for a third sowing plus some more.

It felt terrific to get out in the garden in my bare feet and get down on my hands and knees and get dirty.  Quite therapeutic given all the deaths and bad news recently.  Ugh.  Green beans and more are in the on-deck circle....
