The Garden Chronicles

Weekly update on the garden.

Under ordinary circumstances I would be looking for alternative sources to give away spinach.  Not so this year.  I haven't gotten any spinach to germinate to save my soul.

Under ordinary circumstances I would be shouting:  Vive le Jardin Magifique Not so this year.  Things are not magnificent. It is hard to suppress the disappointment and remain upbeat.  Roughly a third of the tomato plants remain stunted and scrawny.  They're withered and gray and appear to be on life support.  Strikingly, the remaining plants are thriving.  Same soil, same conditions, same location in the same garden.  I'm stumped.

On a brighter note I've resown another batch of radishes - which after failing early-on - now appear to be just fine.

The green beans have been thinned and on Saturday the second sowing began to poke above ground.

English peas are doing just fine.

And after mounding the spuds for perhaps the last time I treated them to a drenching of Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew® to put the hurt on Colorado Potato Beetles that showed-up in the last week.
