Following Van Morrison’s 1966 break-up with the band Them
and Decca records this song arrived on the musical scene.
Likely
his all-time signature song - Brown Eyed Girl was recorded on the Bang record
label in 1967 and released the same year to ultimately peak at number 10 on the
Billboard Hot 100. Covered by too many
artists to list this tune is ranked at 110 on the Rolling Stone magazine list
of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It
has also been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Trivia – when the song was released the
lyrics making love in the green grass
were considered too suggestive for many radio stations and were edited for air
play with laughin' and a-runnin', hey hey
from a previous verse.
Here are recordings
of the original studio takes at Bang.
They include both the original release version of the song and what is considered the ‘alternate’
version.
These are fun and
I hope you enjoy them…..
