Brace for the BS

On April 2nd of this year I predicted that Team Trump would mount an all-out effort to rewrite the historical narrative of his bungled management of the COVID-19 pandemic and the deeply damaged economy.   

Trump has always been masterful at staging a narrative yet this is the plan to create a revisionist history of what actually went down.  Something that will settle nice and comfortably in the minds of Trump supporters so as not to create any cognitive dissonance.  The plan is now fully functional – and updated with a couple of added options and features.           

Consider this – Trump is being out-polled by a guy hiding in his basement and with the COVID-19 death toll now predicted by his own CDC to possibly rise to 143,000 within the next ten days voters are beginning to question his unhurried and tardy response to the early and emerging crisis.  Regretfully, that is a heap of our dead countrymen in the space of roughly 120 days.  It is no small wonder that voters are questioning Trump's current haphazard management of the health crisis and economic wreckage.  

So here's the deal.  Watch for the propagandists to employ the original three predicted  tactics plus two additional ones:               

• Flood the media and supporters with every action Trump has taken.  That most have been tardy, postponed and delayed is immaterial.  The history must be revised to reflect these as superb achievements.  (Unchanged)             

• Amplify self-congratulatory praise of the president – we’re doing more testing, We have more ventilators than we need, 13.3% unemployment is celebrated, etc.  (Unchanged) 

• Blame shifting – this is all Obama’s fault.  He didn’t leave us any PPE.  (New)           

• Shout:  LOOK!  SQUIRREL!!  To distract people’s attention from the president’s shoddy performance.  This includes – but is not limited-to - outrageous conspiracy theories (Klausutis and Flynn) or outrageous Tweets (shoot looters on sight), Obamagate, blame China, tear gas peaceful protesters for a bible photo-opp at a church you've never worshiped, etc.  (New)        

• Finally, they will deploy the Roy Cohn tactic and ‘punch-back’ ten times harder at any and every one critical of the president. (Unchanged)
